This is possibly the rarest of all Models of Yesteryear issues. The (Y1-2) Model "T" Ford was produced from 1964 to 1974. During this time, it had only been produced in two color variations: a red and a cream body finish but never as Henry Ford had produced the real model..."They can have it painted any color, as long as it's black!". So, American collectors, especially members of the American International Matchbox Collectors Club and Exchange, hounded the marketing staff at Lesney USA with a request for a black model and it finally paid off. At the end of it's model run, all black Model "T" s were ordered but due to a shortage of essential components only 900 models were produced and shipped to the USA. They were shipped to Rich's Hobbytowne, a model shop in Pine Brook, New Jersey. The models were then sold by the proprietor through the Matchbox Collectors Club quarterly newsletter to the members on the basis of one model per member at a cost of $5 each.
